Germany has a new Ambassador to Romania

Cord Meier-Klodt is Germany’s new Ambassador to Romania starting January 9, 2017. He replaced Werner Hans Lauk, who decided to retire from diplomacy, and left Romania at the end of December. Cord Meier-Klodt was born in 1953 in Hamburg. He is married and has three children. Before coming to Romania as Ambassador, he was the Special Representative of the German OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transdniestrian Settlement Process. Prior to that, in 2014-2015, Cord Meier-Klodt worked at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, being responsible for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia. Between 2011 and 2014, he was the deputy head of the mission at the New Delhi Embassy and, between 2008 and 2011, he was the head of the cultural department within the Embassy in London. Romania’s minister of foreign affairs, Teodor Melescanu, met the new German Ambassador on Tuesday, to receive his accreditation letters. On this occasion, the two officials exchanged views on the Romanian-German relations, stressing the shared interest in strengthening the political dialogue and economic cooperation between Romania and Germany.
